| I was told to judge the paintings when I first walked into the studio in the morning : which is something I had already figured out, and it reminds me exactly of the baselitz comment, and it reminds me of some other things too : like kandinsky turning to abstraction upon noticing one of his own paintings upside down: not recognizing it but being struck by its beauty: was enough to cure him of representing things for good : or hemingway instructing in moveable feast not to empty the well completely at the end of each creative session, rather leave a little bit in the well to return to next day — he knew early on not to empty that well |
