| it follows that if a painter paints a line, then what is underneath the line : what are the layers of process and contemplation beneath the surface layer : in paintings many of those layers are documented in the work itself as surface layers can be somewhat transparent or the quality of the thing underneath that was covered or partially carved away shows through : but with drawing those layers are completely meta physical, or present but not in the physical sense : each stroke is the sum of its parts, that is the contemplation process, but not to diminish it as not involving action :contemplation is exercise : every similar line that was laid down in the past contributes to the quality of that line : but one breath : yi koa qi (ee ko chee) : a piece can be complete in one sitting like that and another can require months of fermentation |
